Merry Xmas

Hi everyone and a merry xmas to you all. hope everyone had a good few days filling them selves with turkey and mince pies and maybe a sherry or two. well whilst u have been eating myself and simon have decided on the 2 male and 1 female teams that will be representing brunel university in NOTTINGHAM on the 7TH AND 8TH of FEBRUARY

This weekend will start nice and early on the saturday morning with a meet time of around 8'OCLOCK. After hopefully a safe journey in the minibus we will be booking into a hotel for the evening, and dropping off our bags before making our way to the bowl for around 12'OCLOCK

The weekends bowling will consist of 9 games, for the  6 person men's teams this will be broken down into 3 games of trios and three games of doubles followed by a 5 man team event with the extra person playing 3 games of singles. For the 3 person women team you will play 3 games singles and 6 games of trios. As a whole by the end of saturday we should have all bowled 3 games with 6 to play on the sunday morning.

saturday evening will consist of a trip to the MAN HO (a chinnese),  a traditional nationals visit for some time of the visiting brunel team. followed by some drinks in town etc etc. Feel free to drink how ever much you want but bowling will begin on the sunday at 8AM which means a 7:30 WAKE UP. so be warned.

sunday will consist of the final 6 games followed by a proze giving which hopefully we will have to stay for followed by a nice trip home on the bus. ild expect to be home around 10PM but this is of course if things run smoothly.

COSTS: The 9 games of bowling will be FREE, thats right 9 free games so the only expenditure is going to be food and drink money and accomodation. currently the accomodation is being subsidised by £10 PER PLAYER. therefore the cost per player is£25 PER PERSON. i am looking to get this subsidised by more but be prepared if i cant. as well as this you will need money for food and drink so this just depends on how hungry and thirsty you are. finally everyone will need to bring £5 towards petrol costs (we will see how far this gets us) but this will be claimed back through the club through bowling at a discounted rate of £1.50 the following week for all of those that contributed.

I think the whole weekend with bowling, accomodation, petrol expenses, food and drink shouldnt cost much more than £50 PER PERSON

Finally the team selection

TEAM 1: Adam Churcher, Simon Cooper, Joe Duggen, Paul Sanders, Tom Shaw, Ed Haskett

TEAM 2: Mark Collins, Adam Tippelt, Lee Hitchings, Ben Vallely, Kayo Bhada, Steve Arthur

WOMENS: Lauren Crook, Kim Mines, Emma Tharme

CONGRATULATIONS

Go to Ben Vallely who was the proud winner of a new bowling ball thanks to the clubs give away last wed. watch Ben and his new ball this wed and if you feel you want to get your own this xmas then why not pop and see Matt at the London Pro Shop

We also need to congratualte Simon Cooper for not only hes first 700 series but also the first of many to be bowled by brunel tenpin since being founded, well Done simon

BUSA CUP

Unfortunately this weekend in our Busa Cup matches against Imperial and Warwick University we were unable to win both game and proceed out of the group stages.  Our first match was against one of the best teams in the country, and all though we didnt bowl to our potential we put up a good fight and eventually lost 9-7.

After a long wait and some good food our second match was against the slightly under par Imperial University, this gave the team the opportunity to relax and we showed this in our scores performing much better than we had in the earlier morning match producing a comfortable 16-0 win

Well done to all those that bowled, especially the less experienced who had never bowled a tournament before or seen this side of bowling.

Match statistics are soon to follow so keep posted

ABOUT

Bowling on a Wednesday takes the format of a handicapped Trios league which is bowled over three games allowing everyone to play at an equal playing level.

As well as our weekly league, we also enter various competitions throughout the year and are confirmed as entrants into the BUCS CUP the NATIONALS WEEKEND plus various other competitions.

If competitions aren't your thing then there are regular social events. As well as meeting every Wednesday evening for drink in the hub we have arranged social trips to Thorpe Park, a winter BBQ as well as our annual Christmas meal.

Trios league offically started on the 22nd October and Singles league began on the 5th November.
Don't forget these are  handicapped leagues, which are as fair as can be, so you all have an equal chance to lift that league winners trophy.
